CBA Weekend Event 14th to 16th September 2012
This year we visited Buxton for the traditional CBA Weekend event where we had the opportunity to have a closer look at the unique archaeological heritage of this rich area. On Friday evening there was a guided tour around the spa town of Buxton followed by a drinks reception and the 34th "Beatrice de Cardi" lecture given by David Thackray, head of archaeology at the National Trust. Beatrice (now 98 !) was there as usual and she has attended every one of these 34 lectures. On the Saturday we set off on coaches to explore the Bronze Age landscapes of Stanton Moor and discover the birthplace of the factory system at Masson Mills, built by Sir Richard Arkwright in 1783 and still full of original working machinery. On Sunday we set off once more to visit the Ice Age caves at Creswell Crags where we saw the only known examples of UK cave art and also enjoyed the splendour of Bolsover Castle. The AGM was held at the Creswell Crags Visitor Centre when Rowan Whimster and I stepped down after 9 years as Trustees and new members were appointed in our place.
I have added some photos of the weekend to the Photo Gallery.
